SPEECH THERAPY

Do you know someone who has suffered a stroke and needs help with swallow strengthening, or has special dietary needs related to a stroke? A speech therapist can help.

Speech pathologists diagnose and treat communication and swallowing disorders. They have a master’s degree, clinical skills, and must pass a licensing exam for entry level.

Speech therapists work closely with dietitians to help personalize diets to meet an individual’s nutritional needs while also being safe for swallowing. In addition, a speech therapist can teach specific swallowing skills to increase safety, and help with muscle strengthening to progress a patient to a higher-level diet. Two children pretending to talk into bananas that represent Speech Therapy needs.

Do you have a child with a lisp or stutter? A speech pathologist can help children develop skills to become better communicators and grow in self-confidence. Being a good communicator is an essential skill in today’s job market. Give your child the advantage and confidence he/she needs to develop good communication skills by utilizing a speech pathologist.

Is your child developmentally delayed and in need of help to progress? A speech therapist can assist by providing a treatment plan that will consistently work on the aspects of communication that your child needs to improve upon. A creative speech therapist will use games and interactive techniques to stimulate your child’s interest in and desire to be in speech therapy. Children usually thrive in the specialized one-on-one relationship with a skilled speech therapist.

Do you have a family member with cleft palate or cerebral palsy that would benefit from the services of a speech pathologist? Then Apogee Therapy Services can help you.

Apogee Therapy Services can meet your speech, physical, and nutritional needs all in one community facility. Speech therapists will frequently work closely with Registered Dietitians and Physical Therapists as part of a multi-disciplinary team to meet the aggregate needs of an individual patient.

What should you expect when you come for speech therapy services?
  • First, the patient information and health insurance will be provided to the receptionist along with the doctor referral for speech therapy.
  • Or, have your physician’s office fax your speech therapy prescription to Apogee Therapy Center at 616-249-8147 before you arrive. It will be one less thing to remember later.
  • The speech therapist will need to evaluate the patient, and this may include reading tasks, responding to questions, interactive games (for children), a standardized test, or swallowing evaluation while eating or drinking.
  • The speech pathologist will identify treatment options and discuss which ones will likely benefit the patient the most.

Jeff, Thank you for helping me with my knee and shoulder. The best thing you did for me though was diagnosing and treating a problem with my ribs that was affecting my breathing and impacting the quality of my life. I can’t believe that four different doctors I went to over the several years could not diagnose this problem and I lived with it so long. It would have been very easy for you to ignore this problem and only treat the injury that I was originally here for (shoulder). You listened very well and took the time to really understand what I was going through, and now I can finally breathe again thanks to you.

I highly recommend Apogee Therapy Center. Jeff Carter is a rare find. He has a huge heart dedicated to helping people heal. At Apogee you can trust that you are in expert hands and are going to get the best possibly care available. Apogee has friendly, warm, and personal atmosphere. I look forward to my visits.  Jeff and his staff are always welcoming, accommodating and always make it an all around comfortable experience. I have gotten great results in Jeff's care. Knowing he would be well cared for, I recently sent my husband to Jeff for a shoulder injury. He is impressed with Apogee as well and is confident that he will be feeling better soon. We both are very thankful for Apogee, Jeff Carter and his staff.

I am so glad we came to Jeff Carter at Apogee! This is the second physical therapist my daughter went to for her upper back / neck problem. The first therapist spent about 5 minutes evaluating her and the treatments didn't help. Jeff spent over an hour and a half evaluating her. He is so thorough! After coming twice a week for 5 weeks she is pain free! I told Jeff and his team that the difference between the first therapy office and Apogee is the difference between Motel 6 and a 5 Star hotel. My family will never go anywhere else. P.S. In addition to his expertise, Jeff has an amazing personality, makes you feel instantly comfortable, and has a great sense of humor. You will not be disappointed.
